Weekend Preview Oct. 10-13: Boys Tourneys in Western Canada & Dallas, While Tier 1 Girls Battle in Buffalo
Well, as of this weekend we already are two months into the 2025-26 North American youth hockey season. It’s Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend, and believe it or not, American Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Before we know it, the winter holiday season will be here.
What happened? It feels like we just started sipping on pumpkin spice drinks and buying Halloween candy. Oh yeah, we did. Aren’t next year’s back-to-school sales coming up soon?
Nevertheless, the season is in full swing now that most MHR rankings categories have gone live. It won’t be long now before full Canada Boys and Girls rankings for all ages and levels will be available.
In the meantime, the eighth weekend of the season brings us another Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Showcase in Western Canada, this time for the U18 Prep Boys, along with the Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament for U14, U15 and U16 Canadian AAA and USA Tier 1 Boys teams in Ontario.
Also in B.C., the Bauer U15 Elite Invite began Friday, Oct. 10, featuring 16 Canada and USA Boys AAA/Tier 1 teams playing through Oct. 13. The tournament includes 10 CSSHL teams along with four Tier 1 USA Boys teams and two additional Western Canada AAA Boys teams.
South of the Border, the second Premier Ice Prospects event of the fall, the PIP Fall Fest Showcase, features USA and Canadian Girls Tier 1 teams competing in 16U and 19U divisions in Buffalo, N.Y, while deep in the heart of Texas more than 100 USA Tier 1 and 2 Boys teams have converged for CCM Dallas, a tournament for ages 9U through 18U.
CSSHL U18 Prep Western Showcase
The CSSHL U18 Prep Showcase at Planet Ice in Delta, British Columbia, got underway early on Friday, Oct. 10 as Burnaby Winter Club Academy took on Edge School of Calgary. Twenty teams are competing in 30 games over three days.
The CSSHL U18 Boys Prep Division features some of Western Canada’s traditional AAA powerhouse programs such as Edge School, Northern Alberta Xtreme, Delta Hockey Academy, Yahle Hockey Academy, Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna and Burnaby Winter Club Academy, to name a few.
Formed in 2009 with the mission of being “National leaders in education-based hockey,” the CSSHL now features 38 accredited schools and schools with residence and a total of 124 teams in eight divisions. In addition to the Girls U18 Prep division, the league will crown Western Boys champions at the U15, U17 and U18 levels as well as U17 and U18 Boys Eastern champs.
All CSSHL games can be viewed live and on-demand at FloHockey.
