Our Play of the Year Contest is Back!
It’s back!
For the third straight year, MYHockey Rankings will be holding a summer-long contest to determine the Play of the Year for the 2024-25 season.
All 24 of our Play of the Week winners from this past season will be included in the contest, which will feature a 32-play bracket and Instagram voting to determine which play advances from each round. That means there will be eight “wildcard” selections – plays that were edged out in Play of the Week voting or plays that have been submitted since the feature concluded in April – included among the final field of 32.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who submitted plays for consideration throughout the season. Anyone who has a spectacular play that HAS NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED to be considered as a Play of the Year wildcard entry, please feel free to read the rest of this document and send video clips that meet the criteria to scott@myhockeyrankings.com.
NOTE: Any clips submitted for consideration should ONLY be emailed as .mov or similar files. No links to social media or YouTube posts will be considered. Because of the number of submissions we receive, there is not enough time to screen-grab video from links. Please only send original files with natural sound and NO SPECIAL EFFECTS such as music, added graphics or slow motion.
Please include the player's name, team name, age group and birth year. If multiple players contribute to the play please understand that we may not be able to name all of them and will do our best to name players with direct involvement.
To celebrate all the great plays from the season that is behind us (and in full transparency, to help us all pass the time during the offseason), we are going to begin this year’s Play of the Year contest later this month so that it runs all the way up until the week that the 2025-26 season officially begins and MHR starts accepting game results to count toward the upcoming season’s rankings.
This contest will be very similar to other past popular contests we have run during hockey’s downtime. Our club logo contest kept hockey fans and families engaged when the sport was shut down during the pandemic, and two summers ago we ran a very popular jersey contest. Last summer we compiled a Games of the Year list and also have held votes to determine the top plays and saves from previous years.
This season we named approximately 24 MHR Plays of the Week. Most, if not all, of the weekly winners as well as other submissions that received strong consideration during weekly voting may be included in the 2024-25 Play of the Year Contest.
Here are the contest requirements:
- Any play made by an amateur player at any level from mites to juniors that was submitted to us during the 2024-25 season is eligible. Plays submitted since the Play of the Week voting concluded in April also may be considered as “wildcard” entries.
- Goals, assists, great passes, crazy plays, buzzer-beaters, amazing saves, desperation defensive plays,
- etc. will all be considered.
- We will NOT include big hits.
The final bracket will be announced and posted on or about June 12. All voting will take place on weekdays, with the voting for each new round always starting on a Monday or Tuesday. There will be no voting on Fridays or weekends. The contest will run through Aug. 12.
Here is a tentative schedule for the MHR 2024-25 Play of the Year Contest:

Round 1 – June 16 to July 10
Round 2 – July 14-24
