The Weekend Wrap: Western Canada & Ontario Boys Action Heats Up While Buffalo and Dallas Host Girls & Boys Events
With the eighth weekend of the 2025-26 North American youth hockey season behind us, we are rolling right past the two-month mark of the campaign. The season is in full swing now that most MHR rankings categories have gone live, with Western Canada and some others due to come online this week or in the weeks ahead.
While we wait on that, let’s take a look back at the eighth weekend of the season, which brought us another Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) Showcase in Western Canada, this time for the U18 Prep Boys, along with the Wendy Dufton Memorial Tournament for U14, U15 and U16 Canadian AAA and USA Tier 1 Boys teams in Ontario.
Also in B.C., the Bauer U15 Elite Invite began Friday, Oct. 10, featuring 16 Canada and USA Boys AAA/Tier 1 teams playing through Oct. 13. The tournament included 10 CSSHL teams along with four Tier 1 USA Boys teams and two additional Western Canada AAA Boys teams.
South of the Border, the second Premier Ice Prospects event of the fall, the PIP Fall Fest Showcase, featured USA and Canadian Girls Tier 1 teams competing in 16U and 19U divisions in Buffalo, N.Y, while deep in the heart of Texas more than 100 USA Tier 1 and 2 Boys teams were on hand for CCM Dallas, a tournament for ages 9U through 18U.
CSSHL U18 Prep Western Showcase
The CSSHL U18 Prep Showcase at Planet Ice in Delta, British Columbia, got underway early on Friday, Oct. 10 as Burnaby Winter Club Academy took on Edge School of Calgary. Twenty teams competed in 30 games over three days at the showcase.
The CSSHL U18 Boys Prep Division features some of Western Canada’s traditional AAA powerhouse programs such as Edge School, Northern Alberta Xtreme, Delta Hockey Academy, Yale Hockey Academy, Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna and Burnaby Winter Club Academy, to name a few.
Formed in 2009 with the mission of being “national leaders in education-based hockey,” the CSSHL includes 38 accredited schools and schools with residence and a total of 124 teams in eight divisions. There is a Girls U18 Prep Division, and the league also will crown Western Boys champions at the U15, U17 and U18 levels as well as U17 and U18 Boys Eastern champs.
All CSSHL games can be viewed live and on-demand at FloHockey.
