MYHockey Email Scores Submission Guidelines

Historically, nearly 75% of the emails sent to MYHockey containing game scores have NOT helped. As a result, MYHockey aims to facilitate more effective communications with those submitting scores via email. Please read.

MYHockey Definition of a Game:

  • Rosters - Must contain USA/Canadian rostered fall/winter teams. While roster changes specifically for a tournament are highly discouraged, MYHockey cannot monitor this activity. In cases where teams are clearly altering their level of play by adding players, some games may not be added (or may be removed) from MYHockey.
  • Referees - The game is referred by non-team affiliated people who are certified to referee hockey games.
  • Game - Played by both teams with the intention of winning. No coaches on the ice. No extra timeouts for teaching, etc.
  • Time - The game must have 3 periods or 2 periods of 20-30 minutes. At least one period must use a stopped clock. Exception - Some Midget tournaments have been playing shorter quarterfinal and semifinal games, these still count when part of a tournament that has many other qualifying games. Curfewed games are OK if 1) running clock used, but period was full standard length or 2) at least 10 min of stop time play was completed in the third period. If play was stopped by the officials or even a team with less than two minutes remaining on the clock in the third period, it is a game with that as a final score. If more than two minutes remaining when game is stopped or less than 10 minutes of total third period time, then it is not considered a game.
  • Dates - No game played prior to the weekend of 20-August-2008.
  • Forfeits - Forfeited games do not reflect the ability of the teams on the ice and are thus should not be entered.
  • Bottom Line - It must be played like a real game. Any disagreements on this issue are left to the disgression of MYHockey.

Not All Games Qualify:

  • Both teams must be in the system for a game to be entered.
  • Age - Only games played against opponents of the same age level can be entered. A 97 peewee team can play a 96 peewee team, but a 96 peewee team cannot play a 95 bantam team.
  • Level of Play - MYHockey has been analyzing the level of play across the country for years. It recognizes two levels of youth hockey, Tier I (AAA) and Tier II (everything else). Only the Tier II leagues/teams playing at the "highest" level in a geographic area are included. This can be more of an art than a science, but it is usually cut and dried. If a local league has a "AA" division and a "A" division, the "A" level teams will NOT be in MYHockey. Massachusetts town teams are not currently included in MYHockey since there are over 30 non-town AAA/AA clubs within the state. When Michigan minor birth year teams play outside the state they almost always play "A" level teams from surrounding states that do not qualify. Many or most of their out-of-state games cannot be entered. Review the Leagues and the Divisions of those league for a clarification on which are in the system and which ones are not.
  • Preseason Games - While your team may consider a game "regular season", your opponent may be playing with a "tryout" roster in order to make its last cuts. Any games considered "preseason" by either team may be removed by at the discretion of MYHockey.

How to Email Scores that will not be Ignored:

  • On Tuesday, review your team scores to determine if any are missing. If any games that qualify by the above standards are missing they may be emailed. Only emails sent on Tuesdays will be read and processed. If sent by 10pm EST Tuesday, games scores will be updated in Wednesday AM rankings update.
  • Clearly Identified Teams - use the MYHockey names of both teams when submitting a game scores.
  • Age Level - be sure to include the age level of the teams involved
  • Game Date - be sure to include the date of the game, MYHockey format (YYYYMMDD) is great, but not required. Canadians, you use a different standard than Americans and it is preferred that you use letters to signify the month if not using the MYHockey format.
  • Links - please do not provide a link to a team or league website. MYHockey has most of those already, but it is not physically possible for us to monitor all of them on a weekly basis. Please provide a list of missing scores only.
  • Tournaments - if scores are from a tournament, please identify the name of the tournament and its location.
  • Selective Results - do not only provide "good" games. If you are sending in game scores, send all missing scores for your team that qualify by the above standards.
